Ginataang Tulingan

Another simple and easy Filipino fish dish.

Ginataang Tulingan is a fish dish made from tulingan simmered in coconut-based sauce.

Ingredients:
2-3 pounds tulingan (tilapia, milkfish or any fish of your choice can also be an alternative)
2 cups coconut milk
3 long green peppers
1 tablespoon garlic
salt and pepper
banana leaves (optional)

Procedure:
Prepare the fish for cooking. Cut the fish in desirable pieces. Boil the coconut milk, garlic, salt and pepper until oily. Add the fish(wrapped in cut rectangular-sized banana leaves) and long green peppers continue cooking until fish is done. Serve on top of hot steamed rice.

Jan-Rhiz Resto and Venue

Resto Name: Jan-Rhiz Resto and Venue
Location: 1104 Dra. Salamanca San Antonio Cavite City, 4100 Cavite City
Type:  Filipino, American, Italian
Average Price Per Dish: P80-P200

The newest resto business in the city by one of the most popular cake shop and catering business. It is barely a month in operation and since a friend called me to give it a try so here we go.

The menu was uniquely place in a chopping board shape wood. Cool!

They offer boodle fight meals every Thursday to Saturday nights. Buffet all you can every Friday and Saturday. Sounds good.

A note is placed in every table number to wait for 15-25 minutes for orders. Only 3 tables are filled this morning. 25 minutes is a bit too long of a waiting time for a resto that is not even fully packed.

A bit of confusion when the orders arrived. The tacos became taco salad to which they apologized. The waiters are all very polite.

 Chef Salad - P80 (solo)
The photo in the menu has eggs, ham but the actual only has greens, cucumbers and carrots in a dressing with a hint of sesame oil. Makes it more like an asian flavored salad than Chef Salad. Its yummy but a bit pricey for the volume of serving.

Beef Tacos - P60 (for sharing)
Composed only of greens, ground beef and cheese. The beef lacks any hind of flavor. Not even a dash of taco seasoning but the presentation is cool. It was placed in a chopping board.

Pomodoro - P79 (solo)
The pasta is not well drained. In terms of taste its yummy. Wish the bread was crunchy but it got soaked in the watery noodle.

Chicken Wings Buffalo and BBQ - P99 ( with unli rice)
Tried my best to make it look good but the presentation is really bad. They should have placed it in a rectangular plate like how Bonchon is being served. The taste of both flavor is yummy but the wings are too small in serving. Bitin! Rather have a decent huge one piece chicken with drinks. Palubag ang unli rice. Baloy's sells bigger chicken wings at only P20 a piece.

Cucumber Shake - P69
Yummy and tasted really freshly made.

Iced Tea - P35 (medium)
This is the cutest iced tea presentation I have ever seen so far - in a bulb bottle. Its yummy too.

Hamburger - P70

We ordered this as takeout for my mom and guess her reaction when we got home. It too pricey! They should have placed at least some french fries or potato chips as side. Taste wise, the burger patty is pure beef but a bit hard and lacks in flavor. No hint of salt and pepper at all.

Top shot of our orders.

Below is the cashier's area.

After Cafe Antix, this is the next best interior designed resto in the city although its still in the process of improvement. The aircon was so cool inside and unlike Aurora's or Asao the good thing is you won't smell like ulam when you get out of the resto after dining.

Wish there was more accent or maybe half of the white walls to the floor have a different color to make it look more lively.

 The cool ceiling.

The eat all you can area.

The pasalubong corner which is yet to be filled and fixed.

Cakes where Jan-Rhiz was initially known for.

Overall, this resto has potential. It just a matter of improving their menu, servings and offering more food combo choices to be sulit for the price to make it more hit to the food loving Caviteños. Maybe they can offer a wing-pasta-salad-drinks combo or pasta-pizza-drink combo in the coming months.

My favorite food quote -  proudly hanged on their wall. Yikes!

Cofftea Zone and Lago De Dalahican (revisited)

Resto Name: Cofftea Zone and Lago De Dalahican
Location: Manila Cavite Road., Cavite City
Type:  Filipino
Average Price Per Dish: P100-P250

Since the experience last month was so good in Cavite City branch compared to the Robinson' Gen.Trias branch decided to celebrate Father's day here again last Sunday.

Expecting the onion rings appetizer to arrive first but sadly this two dishes came up aside from the beers.
Sizzling Curry Pusit - P250

This was the best dish during our first visit so it was a must to repeat it BUT sadly it was a dismay the moment it was placed on our table. Although it tasted almost the same, the coconut sauce got too thick that when it was poured in the sizzling plate it got overcooked. Medyo nasunog na si coconut milk pa kalamay na sa lapot.  Ang konti pang squid pati cheese !!! #Anyare Wish there would be consistency in the dishes.

Buttered Tanigue with rice - P 120

Worth of the price. The tanigue was perfect cooked.

Garden Salad - P 150

Requested to lessen the mayo to half since the previous order nalunod sa dressing. And guess what they changed the thousand island to plain mayo and with lesser ham pieces. #Anyare

Grilled Tuna Belly - P200

Tuna belly was too thick and unevenly cooked. Some parts tasted burned already and its not yummy. FORGET THIS DISH. NOT WORTH THE PRICE.

Onion Rings - P150

We were almost finished eating when this suppose to be appetizer arrived. Tasted okay and just right for its price

Buffalo Wings - P180

The best new find of the evening. Since this consists of chicken parts and not solely wings this should have been called "Buffalo Chicken" nevertheless one of the best tasting buttery crunchy fried chicken in Cavite City. A MUST TRY !

Potato Mojos  - P120

Last minute pahabol order. Just so-so both in taste and crunchiness. The potato wedges tasted more better and more crunchier than this one.

Yakult Lychee Peach 22 oz - P90

Fruit Tea Lychee 22 oz - P60

Lower rating for second time visit both for food and value. If weren't for that very yummy crispy fried chicken it would have been a not very bad food dining choices experience.

Regarding Senior citizen discount, I don't understand the P18 amount as 20% senior citizen discount when the total bill P690. And the P70 in the other bill which is P830. The discount is puzzling the first time we dined in too.

Lago De Dalahican (Robinson Branch)

Resto Name: Lago De Dalahican
Location: Robinson's Gen.Trias
Type:  Filipino
Average Price Per Dish: P150-P300

Since the experience in Cavite City branch is good decided to try this branch in Robinson's Gen. Trias last Sunday.

photo c/o: Lago FB page

When we arrived the resto is full inside but there are vacant tables outside. Then approached the waiter at the door who told us there is no vacant table when he could ask us if we are willing to dine outside or just be on the waiting list. But he has no follow-up reaction. Went on the side of the resto get a better glimpse of the inside and saw a table that is almost finished eating. Came back to the door and told the waiter we will just be waiting since there is a table that is almost done. It was us who told him if we can have a menu now so we can order ahead of time while waiting for our company. That was the only time he handed the menu (parang ayaw ni Kuya ng customer)

Nachos

This is the only okay dish from all the dishes we ordered. It was yummy and worth its price.

Nido Soup

Tasted straight from the pouch powdered soup. Barely any pugo  #GanitoBaTalaga

Mexicano Sisig

Since this was one of the two yummiest in Cavite City branch decided to try it here. Sadly quality is different. The sisig pieces are not evenly chopped. Some are big some are small and some looks like shredded. Mas tasty yung sa Cavite City at mas maganda presentation.

 Sizzling Tuna Flakes ?

Forgot the exact name of this forgettable dish and we were in a hurry wasn't able to wait for the receipt. This dish is a major disappointment. Sizzling tuna flakes but when it was served the sizzling plate was not even hot. No idea of this dish really looks like this but it doesn't even taste yummy either. Not worth the prize and order. #SayangPera

Sizzling Chicken

The last order to served after numerous follow up since we are almost finished eating and it is still nowhere to be found. The dish is just okay. Nothing really fancy to rave about and again its not even sizzling when it was served. The buttered chicken is much yummier.

Fruit Tea Wintermelon, Lychee and Strawberry 22 oz

Cavite City main branch is way  better in food and service Some dishes are pricier here than in their main branch. Was supposed to order the other Cavite City fave find - Sizzling Curry Squid but it was priced here at P300 - higher than P50 so didn't end up ordering it.
