About Lutong Cavite


Early December 2009, I was searching online for Caviteñean cuisines out of curiosity of its history and to my frustration I cannot find any photographs, recipes nor valuable research information even a decent food feature article. Why is no one sharing about Caviteñean cuisines? Nobody seems to be interested and care about the rich food culture of Cavite City thus this blog had its inception and was started in January 2010.

Many had been written in history books about Cavite being known as "Land of the Brave" or as History Capital of the Philippines. Cavite is also a favorite place for travel especially the highly popular Tagaytay with its beautiful scenic view of Taal Lake and vast number of restaurants being merely a few hours’ drive from Manila but little is still known about Caviteñean cuisines. While provinces like Pampanga, Ilocos or Bulacan have become famous for their food, Cavite is one of those whose culinary heritage has been left with the locals thus why not bring awareness of Caviteñean cuisines while sharing a dash of the culturally rich city as well. Why not aim to encourage fellow Caviteños to at least discuss and hopefully share their well-loved traditional heritage Caviteñean recipes especially the rarely made ones that is nearing extinction as legacy to the next Caviteñean generations.

However, after several months of blogging and sharing family recipes of some Caviteñean cuisines, I'm seeing difficulty in my vision and aim since I do not know where to gather other informations. There  was little online response and the Cavite City Library is not of any help to my frustration. Add I am shy to interview people so instead of being stagnant in contents, I decided to add other family recipes, resto reviews, food trips, finds and tries. I also included my occasional successful cooking and baking recipe experiments from cookbooks, cooking shows and online food sites.

Years after when things went lielow here, I was introduced to Mr. Ige Ramos. He is a flicker of light that brought huge inspiration being someone who is very passionate about food. I saw his love and desire in putting Cavite dishes in the local food map which had long been my vision too. Not long after I slowly expanded the social media reach of this blog while promoting again the cuisines and the city including its Chabacano language.

LUTONG CAVITE blog is my way of giving back something to the city especially its young generations. This is also my tribute of appreciation to my Caviteñean roots especially to my ancestors being the early inhabitants of the city way back when it is still called Cavite Viejo.

The primary focus of this blog is Cavite City - the city I dearly love and grew up but trying slowly to expand the contents especially food features to the whole province of Cavite. I hope you enjoy reading my labor of love and find it as a useful guide as much as I have fun cooking, eating and writing it.


NOTE: All recipes and photographs displayed on this blog are all actually cooked and taken by yours truly unless otherwise clearly stated. Some recipe are based from open source recipe or Filipino cooking traditions and have been adapted to suite my personal cooking preference, availability of ingredients and other cooking resources.

Ta platica yo puro Chabacano caya lang nisabi yo quelaya escribe el lenguaje caya querie man yo icha mas mucho Chabacano sana aqui y asi propagar no masyao de pudi. Si ta le y intindi tu este que buenu. Si ya anda tu aqui para busca y cusi el mga comida mas buenu. Viva el Comida Caviteño !

Muchos Gracias Que bueno naman tini este tiempo para escribi el mana vianda se ta cusi niso na Ciudad del Cavite, Ta muri ya el Sabor del Caviteños poreso No hay mas todo el mana lehitimos Kusineras na Ciudad Y al mana juventud no mas ta cusi. Que algre yo tini niso pudi le todo el recipe del Cavite. Siempre pa si pasya palagi aki para busca nuebo!

    1. Gracias Caviteñong Pupol! Sa wakas tiene ya rin ya pasya na ta platika Chabacano aqui na blog. No ma nga ta cusi el mga juventud ora puro process food ya lang ki ta kumi ilo. Ta muri ya el Sabor del Caviteños como el lengwahe na Chabacano. Sana nga pudi yo busca o tiene dali aqui otro mga recipe del mga vianda del mana lehitimos Kusineras na Ciudad na pwede yo kusi bago todo ilo kida nuway.


      Note: Pardon my barok and murdered Chabacano spelling and sentence construction. I understand and speak the language but only in this blog I attempted writing it :-P

    2. hora noway ma sabor el comida de cavite tamales is lacking in peanuts and very sweet. bibinka ni samala is not that tasty, but i still go back to cavite city to eat these comfort food this is better than nothing. wish someone can duplicate ang pancit at lumpia ni aling badang sa cabuco
