About Lutong Cavite

Early December 2009 I was searching online for Caviteñean foods and to my frustration I cannot find any photos, recipes nor valuable research information. Nobody seems to care about the rich food culture of Cavite thus this blog was started in January 2010. My primary vision and desire that time is preserving and sharing traditional Caviteñean food and cooking with a dash of history of the city itself. I was hoping fellow Caviteños will get encourage to share their Caviteñean recipes for the complete compilation of all Caviteñean cuisines especially the rarely made ones that is nearing extinction as legacy to the next Caviteñean generations. After several months I'm seeing difficulty in my vision since I do not know where to gather information. Not even the Cavite City Library is of any help to my frustration. This blog will be stagnant of contents so I decided to add family recipes, resto reviews, food trips and tries aside from my successful cooking experiments from cookbooks, cooking shows and other food blogs.

I am not a professional cook nor chef  but just a certified food lover who loves to eat'n'cook. My passion for cooking and baking for years comes from my family since we are all food lovers. During my childhood days my parents always creates birthday cakes yearly for me and my sister (hindi pa uso Goldilocks at Red Ribbon nuon). They also make and sell siopao, cookies, sliced cakes, etc. as a sideline. My mother always prepares everyday “terno” meals at home with the help of my lola's. My great great grandfather in my lola’s mother side is one of the first accountant of the city. My great great grandmother owns one of the city’s popular carinderia known for serving lumpia fresca and pancit carajay. Every lunch workers from Sangley Point orders take-out meals wrapped then in banana leaves placed in a bayong. My great great grandfather in my lolo’s mother side is pure Chinese and a great cook as well. My mother always flaunts she will never forget the delicious dishes he makes and how he can cook deliciously a whole chicken with its entire head and feet intact. My lola’s sisters are also into cooking and so are my aunts. My love and passion for great food, cooking and baking really runs in the blood.  I'm also a great fan of cooking shows since I was a child from Stephen Yan to the Cooking with the Dazas, Heny Sison and of course the popular reality cooking shows nowadays.

LUTONG CAVITE blog is my way of giving back a little and showing my appreciation to my Caviteñean roots especially to my ancestors being the early inhabitants of the city I dearly love.

If you have recipes of authentic Caviteñean cuisines especially food ternos feel free to e-mail, post and share on FB page so we can keep CAVITE food history and culture alive.
