In celebration of Heritage Month, Lutong Cavite is now officially opening the pre-order for the 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨 𝐂𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐞ñ𝐨 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐨 𝐝𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬.

Two years ago, during Heritage Month, we also launched Book 1: 𝘌𝘭 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘰 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘰 𝘊𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘦ñ𝘰 𝘋𝘪𝘤𝘤𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘰 𝘝𝘪𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘭 - the publication that started this Chabacano learning journey. Today, we continue that mission by creating more learning materials dedicated to keeping Chabacano Caviteño alive for the next generation.

Value of Work: Ecos del Galeon and El Chonggo y El Pagong

Hindi madali ang language advocacy. Higit pa ito sa paglikha at pagbebenta ng mga akda dahil ito ay tungkol sa maingat na dokumentasyon, sa pagbibigay-halaga sa proseso, at sa pagtiyak na ang bawat output ay nagsisilbing matibay na bahagi ng ating kolektibong alaala.

Ang mga zine at aklat tulad ng 𝐄𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐨𝐧 at 𝐄𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐠𝐨 y 𝐄𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐠 ay hindi lamang simpleng publikasyon na ordinaryong panglatag sa mesa kasama ng ibang paninda. Sila ay mga milestone project na mga patunay ng patuloy na pagsisikap na mapanatili at mapalalim ang ating wika at kultura. Kapag ang mga ganitong likha ay hindi naipuwesto ayon sa kanilang tunay na halaga, nawawala ang pagkakataong higit pang mapalakas ang mensahe ng adbokasiya.

Ang 𝐄𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐨𝐧 ay hindi lamang papel at tinta - ito ay dokumentasyon ng ating buhay na pamana. Kinilala na ito sa labas ng bansa, niyakap sa mga pandaigdigang espasyo, at naging mahalagang bahagi ng LHCN registration.

Ang 𝐄𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐠𝐨 y 𝐄𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐠 kahit hindi tayo ang personal na may-akda o gumuhit, ito ay bunga ng kolektibong pagsisikap ng marami para sa wikang Chabacano at hango sa panulat ni Dr. Jose Rizal. Parangal din ito sa legasiya ni Dr. Ike Escalante.

Isang paalala ito na ang continuity ay mahalaga. Ang bawat proyekto ay hindi dapat nagtatapos sa paglalabas lamang, kundi dapat sinusundan ng malinaw na direksyon kung paano ito palalalimin, palalawakin, at maipapamana.

Chabacano Caviteño Libro de Actividades

Lutong Cavite will be selling a limited number of self-published copies of the first-ever 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨 𝐂𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐞ñ𝐨 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 which will be released for the very first time April 25 at Día del Libro, in 𝐔𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐥𝐚, 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝟐𝟕. 

This 100-page activity book serves as the next step application after children have studied and learned from Book 1 and Book 2: 𝘌𝘭 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘰 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘰 𝘊𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘦ñ𝘰 𝘋𝘪𝘤𝘤𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘰 𝘝𝘪𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘭 and 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘦𝘯 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘰 𝘊𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘦ñ𝘰.

It is the 2nd completed phase of a TRIFECTA learning series I conceptualized, wrote and created, with the 3rd and final installment still in development to provide children with a more complete enjoyable Chabacano learning experience.

The 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨 𝐂𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐞ñ𝐨 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐨 𝐝𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬 was edited by 𝐌𝐬. 𝐉𝐨𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐚 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐚 and 𝐃𝐫. 𝐄𝐞𝐯𝐚 𝐒𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐚.

𝐈𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐩𝐫𝐞-𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤, 𝐬𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬.

I had originally hoped to release this project since last year under our NGO, Circle of Chabacano Dreams, where I serve as co-founder and sole author/creator of more than 50 plus book/zine ensemble of Enriquez Publishing House, created to strengthen Chabacano educational content for 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 - 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠. However, due to delays and continuing uncertainty, I chose to move forward because advocacy continues.

Ink, Memory, and Language: Inside the Zine Sueños Esperanza Zine Project

Zine Sueños Esperanza is a critical record of Caviteño intangible linguistic heritage of Cavite City. These two dozen zine collection project which is this blog's brainchild chronicles the evolution of Chabacano Caviteño literature for several decades. Notably, this collection includes rare Spanish works from a forgotten Cavite-born poet whose legacy remained obscured until now. Meticulously curated, designed, and produced through two weeks of exhaustive, non-stop labor by yours truly, Zine Sueños Esperanza serves as a guardian of our collective memory.

The project premiered during Circle of Chabacano Dream’s very first major public event participation, following the CCD president’s decision to join the Día del Libro 2025 at Ayala Triangle to promote Chabacano Caviteño language.

Written in Recovery: Creating 24 Children’s Books for Chabacano

When the idea of a Chabacano Corner in late quarter 2024 was first proposed, we spend days conceptualizing what will be the wall design and shelves with the letter that also took several behind the scenes story before finally getting approved and signed but we only had one book. But I cannot agree that the beautiful corner idea of the president will exist with just a single title. So even while I was newly recovering from a major operation, I worked from my sickbed despite my family’s constant scolding and my co-teammate Camille I am determined to create Chabacano children’s books that would at least fill the Chabacano corner.

From writing to design, the process was far from easy, especially while my stitches were still painful and being lost at times of Chabacano words while writing the books, but natapos ko naman ng maayos.

The original plan was to produce one dozen books, but it soon became clear that this was not enough. Sabi ko mukhang di mapupuno ang shelves so I pushed myself further and completed two dozen. Although the Chabacano corner itself did not materialize and remained only a recurring plan up to now, these books found life and purpose - they were used, displayed, and sold during Día del Libro and other booth events joined by our president for Circle of Chabacano Dreams.

Recipes That Speak: The Chabacano Language on the Caviteño Table

Ecos del Galeon is a Chabacano heritage cooking book in which all recipes are accompanied by Chabacano translations. This project was the president’s brainchild for the Terra Madre event last November and it proved to be a resounding success. We were able to sell several copies, including to foreign guests who became deeply interested whenever we began narrating Cavite City’s history, particularly the galleon trade and its profound influence on the city’s culture and cuisine.

The sustained interest was also made possible through the presence of Tita A, especially her son Cons, who has learned and embraced Chabacano cooking. Their deep familiarity with the dishes allowed us to engage audiences meaningfully and keep conversations alive around Caviteño heritage cuisine that some want to visit the city to taste more our Chabacano cooking.
